Loft Insulation – what's it all about?

  • It's never been more important to think about insulating your loft. Without proper insulation a lot of the valuable, expensive energy you use to heat your home will be lost through the loft. Keep the heat where it belongs – indoors.
  • Current Building Regulations call for 300mm loft insulation, in older homes most attics have no more than 100mm so you can top up to meet the current standards.
  • Loft insulation is effective for at least 40 years, and it will pay for itself over and over again in that time. The better insulated your home, the less energy you need to keep it warm - the more money you'll save in the long run.
  • If you wish to use all or part of your loft area for storage, we can offer you a simple solution, where you will combine any existing insulation with our Polycomp Insulated Structural Loft Panel which is placed above the joists. Using the Polycomp loft panel in this way will allow you to properly insulate your loft while maintaining a storage area.

U Values

The U value is a measure of Insulation effectiveness. It measures how quickly it loses heat, so the lower the U value, the less energy you need to keep your home warm. Loft insulation cuts your loft's U value from around 2.3 (for an un-insulated loft) to 0.16 W/m2K, a reduction of around 95%.
