Building Energy Rating (BER)

As a result of the EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) on January 1st 2007 all new dwellings in Ireland must have a Building Energy Rating (BER) Certificate. The BER certificate will be similar to the energy labelling of household appliances or the litres per kilometre rating for a car.

The directive was extended to include BER ratings on all new buildings from January 1st 2008. More recently, from January 1st 2009 a BER certificate will be required for all existing dwellings and other existing buildings when offered for sale or rental.

It is recommended when you are considering applying for the Government SEI grants, you should also apply for the BER grant of €100 in order to have your insulation upgrade recorded with a new BER energy rating.

Polycomp Insulation has qualified BER assessors who are available to carry out home energy assessments in order to indentify any improved insulation requirements that will substantially improve the energy efficiency within your home and ensure you will qualify for the government grants.
