Home Energy Saving Scheme Grants
The new Home Energy Saving Scheme available from the government through Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI) provides grants to homeowners who have built their homes prior to 2006. Homes built after 2006 were built to a higher standard so they do not qualify for grants at this time.
The Home Energy Savings Scheme provides assistance to homeowners who are interested in improving the energy efficiency of their home in order to reduce energy use, costs and greenhouse gas emissions.
What type of work can I get a grant for?
Grants will be provided to homeowners who invest in energy efficiency improvements in the following areas:
- Attic Insulation
- Wall Insulation - this includes either cavity wall, internal dry lining or external insulation
- High Efficiency Boiler and Heating Control Upgrade
- Heating Controls upgrade only
- Building Energy Rating (BER) - grant for a BER survey if it is undertaken before and after the remedial works are completed
Who can avail of the scheme?
The scheme is open to homeowners of all houses built prior to 2006 including rental properties. You must register your interest with Sustainable Energy Ireland by emailing hes@sei.ie or online at www.sei.ie or calling 1850 927 000.
How much are the grants?
Grants are fixed for each type of measure as indicated in the table below. Grant approval must be in place before any purchase of materials or commencement of measures undertaken. Grants are paid after the measures are completed and the contractor has been paid by the homeowner. In the instance where the cost of the work (vat inclusive) is less than the fixed grant amount, the actual cost will be reimbursed.

* Please note that while you are entitled to apply for each Measure there is a minimum requirement that the grant amount in the first application must be €500 or greater. The BER grant cannot form part of this €500 amount.
